A natural property of terracotta is it's ability to withstand thermal shock. For this reason, terracotta is ideal as a cooking pot - the base of the pot is internally glazed. To bake the garlic, peel off the outer skin of each clove. Place a small knob of butter in the base of the pot, then add the garlic cloves. Cover with the lid and place in a pre-heated oven at Gas Mark 5, 180ºC for around 40 minutes.
